by in News

To mark the 10th anniversary of Livestrong.com on Saturday, the field of Pasadena’s Rose Bowl was filled with positive thinking, healthy bodies and myriad colors of yoga garb.

The healthy-living website wanted to do something special for its birthday and in true wellness form, set its sights on a fitness-related world record.

Celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels, formerly of “The Biggest Loser,” led more than 1,200 attendees in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most people holding a 1-minute abdominal plank position.

The plank is considered by fitness experts to be one of the most effective exercises to attain a toned, flat tummy – because it taps so many core muscles.

According to Michael Empric, an adjudicator for Guinness World Record organization, the mark the throng needed to break was 1,779 people. Livestrong gathered 1,283 people on the famed football field.

Despite falling short of the record number, the stomachs all got a wee bit flatter – all the participants managed to maintain the one-minute plank position.

No record? No worries. The organization was pleased with the turnout and that it got to bolster its message of healthy living and positive thinking.

“Although we didn’t come away with a world-record title, it was incredibly inspiring to see the sea of supporters out on the Rose Bowl field,”  said Jess Barron, vice president and general manager of Livestrong.com. “In the end, it isn’t about winning or losing, but coming together as a community to support one another. We are stronger together and proved that today with this world-record attempt.”
