Brea police find homemade bombs in car

While on patrolling this week, Brea officers found two homemade bombs inside a car that they had pulled over for having an expired registration tag, police said.

The 9 p.m. traffic stop on on Tuesday, Sept. 18, of the black Toyota Corolla was near Imperial Highway and Orange Avenue,.

During the stop officers ended up searching the car and found the devices. It was unclear what prompted the search.

The area was cleared, and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad was called out until it was determined that the bombs were made safe.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of possession of a destructive device.
