Election 2018: Here is how candidates for city council races in Orange County answered questions for our voter guide

Voters in every city in Orange County will go to the polls Nov. 6 to pick who will represent them on the City Council and in some cases as mayor.

Many cities’ races are for at-large council seats. Some others are first-time contests for newly created voting districts. Voters in those districts will be selecting a council member from that geographical area to be the representative on the council. A growing number of cities and school districts are making the shift to by-district elections; a few already used the voting system.

Ahead of the election, all candidates were invited to share information about themselves and answer questions about their priorities and local concerns for this voter guide:

Aliso Viejo City Council: 5 candidates for two seats.

Anaheim: 4 races, including mayor, appear on the ballot.

Brea City Council: 7 candidates for three seats.

Buena Park: 3 races appear on the ballot.

Costa Mesa: Four races appear on the ballot, including mayor for the first time.

Cypress City Council: 6 candidates for three seats.

Dana Point: 3 races appear on the ballot.

Fountain Valley City Council: 8 are vying for three seats.

Fullerton: 2 races appear on the ballot.

Huntington Beach: 15 are vying for four seats on the City Council.

Irvine: 4 are vying for mayor.

Irvine: 12 vying for two seats on the City Council.

Laguna Beach: 12 are vying for three seats on the City Council.

Laguna Hills: 7 are vying for three seats on the City Council.

Laguna Niguel: 2 are vying for two full-term (4-year) seats.

Laguna Woods: 3 are vying for two seats on the City Council.

La Habra: 3 are vying for two seats on the City Council.

Lake Forest: 2 vying for the District 2 seat on the City Council.

Lake Forest: 2 are vying for the District 4 seat on the City Council.

La Palma: 3 are vying for two seats on the City Council.

Los Alamitos: 6 are vying for four seats on the City Council.

Mission Viejo: 5 are vying for three seats on the City Council.

Newport Beach: 4 races appear on the ballot.

Orange: 3 candidates for mayor.

Orange: 8 are vying for two seats on the City Council.

Placentia: 2 are vying for the District 4 seat on the City Council.

Rancho Santa Margarita: 7 are vying for three seats on the City Council.

San Clemente: 12 are vying for three seats on the City Council.

San Juan Capistrano: 3 council district races are on the ballot.

Santa Ana: 3 races for ward seats on the City Council.

Seal Beach: 4 are vying for the District 1 seat on the City Council.

Stanton: 3 are vying for the mayor’s seat.

Stanton: 4 are vying for the District 3 seat on the City Council.

Villa Park: 4 are vying for three seats on the City Council.

Westminster: 2 are vying for mayor.

Westminster: 13 are vying for two seats on the City Council.

Yorba Linda: 3 are vying for two seats on the City Council.
