LONG BEACH – A woman was fatally struck in the predawn hours in Long Beach on Sunday, and the driver of a pickup truck sped away, authorities say.

The victim has been identified only as a 22-year-old Anaheim resident.

Police were dispatched at 1:30 a.m. to the 5500 block of East Second Street, and found the woman down in the street, said Officer Ben Hearst of the Long Beach Police Department.

The victim was walking on the center median of Second Street, near Tivoli Drive, when she fell into the number one lane of eastbound Second Street, police said. The truck was seen stopping before it hit the woman, and after hitting her its driver fled.

Paramedics rushed the woman to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Hearst said.

The suspect’s vehicle was described as a white work truck, possibly a Ford F-150, with a silver tool box in the bed and emblem on the driver’s side.

Police had no physical description of the motorist.

Long Beach police asked anyone with information regarding the crash to call them at (562) 570-7358.
