by in News

Police released surveillance footage on Monday, Oct. 29 of a suspect in an attack on an elderly man at a fast food restaurant in Garden Grove over the weekend.

An 89-year-old man was attacked from behind while he was washing his hands in the bathroom of the McDonald’s at 13971 Harbor Blvd. at about 10:40 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, Garden Grove Police Lt. Carl Whitney said. He said the victim was repeatedly punched and stabbed, but his belongings were not stolen following what appears to have been an unprovoked assault.

He was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a news release from the department, which called the incident attempted murder.

“The victim did not know the suspect,” said Whitney. “No words were exchanged between the two.”

Shortly after the assault, a man is seen holding down his baseball cap as he runs from the restaurant in surveillance footage released by Garden Grove Police. He was described by authorities as either a white or Hispanic man standing about 6 feet tall with a medium build who is possibly between the ages of 25 and 35. He was last seen armed with a knife and wearing a black hat, jacket and pants.

Anyone who might be able to help officers identify the suspect was asked to contact Garden Grove Police Detective Dave Lopez at 714-741-5818.
