10 of 12 Borderline shooting victims died of multiple gunshot wounds, officials say

Most of the 12 victims killed by a gunman at the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks on Nov. 7 died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Among the 10 victims who died of more than one gunshot wound was Ventura County sheriff’s Sgt. Ron Helus, 54, who was one of two responding officers to rush in and fire their weapons inside the bar, according to the agency.

Justin Meek, 23, of Newbury Park died of a single gunshot wound to the chest, while Cody Gifford-Coffman, 22, of Camarillo, died of a single gunshot to the head.

Gifford-Coffman’s funeral was set to be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Camarillo.

Another victim, Telemachus Orfanos, 27, of Thousand Oaks, died of multiple gunshot wounds and a stab wound to the neck, according to the Medical Examiner.  A sheriff’s spokesman could not say Wednesday what instrument was used to stab him.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, with help from the FBI, is still investigating what led Ian David Long, a 28-year-old former Marine from Newbury Park, to shoot and kill 12 people at the bar during a popular “college night” before shooting himself in the head.

The other victims were Daniel Manrique, 33, of Thousand Oaks; Noel Sparks, 21, of Simi Valley; Alaina Housley, 18, of Napa and Pepperdine University;  Blake Dingman, 21, of Newbury Park;  Jacob Dunham, 21, of Newbury Park;  Mark Meza, Jr. 20, of Santa Barbara; Sean Adler, 48 of Simi Valley,. and Kristina Morisette, 20 of Simi Valley.
