Deputies investigate after body found on a trail in Laguna Niguel

Authorities are investigating after the body of a man was found Friday afternoon on a walking trail in Laguna Niguel.

Detectives are treating the death as a homicide and have taken one suspect into custody, said Ray Grangoff, spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies arrived at the trail, which runs along Highland Avenue, after receiving a call about the body at 3:57 p.m., said Lt. Todd Russ. Russ said the body was found near the intersection of Highland Avenue and Braxton Drive, a couple of blocks from Niguel Woods Park.

“There are no outstanding suspects, and there is no danger to the community,” Grangoff said.

Whether the suspect was arrested or booked on any specific charges was not immediately available.

UPDATE: OCSD investigators are treating the Laguna Niguel death investigation as a homicide. A suspect is in custody. There are no outstanding suspects and no danger to the community. The investigation remains in progress.
