One of three suspects in an attempted Buena Park heist early Saturday was listed in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle  on the 5 Freeway in Norwalk while allegedly running from police.

Officers interrupted a burglary in progress at a strip mall on the 7600 block of Knott Avenue at about 4 a.m., which led to a police pursuit into Norwalk, according to a news release from the Buena Park Police Department.

It said the suspect vehicle stopped in northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway near Pioneer Boulevard, and three men tried to flee on foot. The driver was taken into custody, one passenger escaped and another passenger was hit by a vehicle while attempting to cross southbound lanes of traffic.

The injured man was taken to a local hospital and was listed in critical condition, according to the department’s release. It said authorities were still working to identify him.

The 20-year-old Compton man who was allegedly behind the wheel of the vehicle involved in the pursuit was arrested and faces commercial burglary and felony evasion charges, said police. Authorities did not immediately release his name.
