Argument between brothers in Santa Ana prompts 6-hour standoff

by in News

Police arrested a man suspected of assaulting his brother and prompting a six-hour standoff in Santa Ana on Sunday, Nov. 16.

A man armed with a 12-inch sword, knife and pellet gun assaulted his sibling in their home at 2710 S. Rosewood Ave., said Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna. He said the man’s brother and mother fled the home and called police at about 9:30 a.m.

The man’s relatives were not injured, according to Bertagna, who said officers had been called to respond to a similar incident at the residence the night before.

The suspect fled into his house and refused to come out when police arrived, and negotiators spent hours to convince him to surrender on Sunday, according to Bertagna. He said police obtained a search warrant, entered the home and arrested the suspect without incident at about 3:30 p.m.

The suspect was later identified as Doanh Pham, 42, and booked on suspicion of making terrorist threats and other offenses, according to Bertagna.
