Pedestrian injured after vehicle strikes him near Rancho Santa Margarita shopping center

by in News

A crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian walking across the street in Rancho Santa Margarita led sheriff’s deputies to shut down an intersection near a busy shopping center for hours Sunday morning.

An Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said the collision happened at around 8:53 a.m., near the intersection of Santa Margarita Parkway and Avenida De Los Fundadores.

The collision sent the man who was struck to a local hospital with injuries. His condition was unknown, said Lt. Ken Binning.

There were few details about the crash Sunday as investigators were still at the scene piecing together what happened, Binning said.

Sheriff’s deputies and Orange County fire fighters responded to the scene.

The intersection was still shut down at around 12:50 p.m. on Sunday. Binning said it wasn’t clear how long the closure would continue, but he said crash investigations typically last at least four hours.

The crash occurred on a busy stretch of Santa Margarita Parkway, about a quarter mile southwest of the Mercado Del Lago shopping center.
