Garden Grove robbery suspect accused of murdering his mother in Ohio

GARDEN GROVE – A man arrested on suspicion of robbery in Garden Grove also is accused of murdering his own mother in Ohio.

Police responded to a call of a man fighting with an employee in the drive-through lane of Del Taco at 11070 Garden Grove Blvd. at 2:14 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 28. They detained Jeffrey Colin Perry, 28, said Garden Grove Police Sgt. Troy Haller.

Perry had grabbed cash from a Del Taco employee, and when the suspect tried to get away, another employee tackled him and the two fought, police said in a news release.

A warrant check revealed that Perry was wanted for murder in Gahanna, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus.

The murder warrant was filed after his mother was found stabbed to death at her home. Police said the suspect, who had been estranged from his family, went from California to live with his mother in November, according to a report by WBNS-TV in Ohio.

Perry was taken to the Orange County Jail and booked for robbery and on the murder warrant. He had been in possession of his mother’s black 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ohio license plate ENW8600, Haller said, but the jeep has not been found.

Gahanna police are making arrangements for Perry’s extradition of Perry to Ohio, WBNS-TV reported.
