Garden Grove fire displaces 11, one juvenile sustains minor injuries

A fire engulfed a single-story house in flames, displacing 11 Garden Grove residents on Sunday, Dec. 30

The fire started sometime before 7:20 a.m. on the 11500 block of Vicilia Street, the Garden Grove Fire Department said in a statement. It said a resident reported waking up to the smell of smoke and finding signs of a fire.

Eight adults and three minors fled the building before firefighters arrived, said the statement. One juvenile was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

It took 30 firefighters more than half an hour to extinguish flames that caused $400,000 in damage to the structure and $100,000 to property, according to the statement.

Investigators concluded that the fire was an accident,  but did not provide further details. However, they reminded residents to ensure they have working smoke alarms installed in their homes.
