Anaheim police arrest man after standoff ends

by in News

A wanted man barricaded himself in at a house in Anaheim when police attempted to take him into custody, leading to an hours-long standoff that police said ended without any use of force on Monday, Dec. 31.

The incident began at the 900 block of North Clementine Street, said Anaheim Police Sgt. Daron Wyatt. He said officers were attempting to serve a felony arrest warrant, but the suspect refused to leave the home. Police alerted the public about the situation with social media posts beginning with a tweet at 1:24 p.m.

Nearby residents were asked to take shelter in their homes as officers and police vehicles assembled in the area, leading to a closure of southbound traffic on Clementine beginning at La Palma Avenue, according to a department tweet. Dickle Street was also blocked off from North Street to La Verne Street about an hour later.

The situation became “static,” until the suspect surrendered peacefully to police just after 5 p.m., according to a later tweet from police. Further information was not immediately available.
