The Newport Beach Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect in a bank robbery investigation.

The robbery happened on Friday February 8 at 10:15 a.m. at Citibank at 1100 Newport Center Drive. The suspect entered the bank carrying a red Target reusable bag, handed the bank teller a note that said he had a “bomb,” and verbally demanded cash, police said in a news release. He then fled on foot.

The loss is unknown, police said. They have released photos of the crime from Citibank cameras.

Police believe the man also was involved in a Chase Bank robbery in Oceanside and an attempted robbery at Wells Fargo Bank robbery in Escondido on February 5. “The suspect is described as using a demand note, having the same identifying description, and wearing a surgical mask,” the release states.

Anyone with information on the suspect’s identity is urged to contact Det. Jason Prince at 949-644-3762.
