LONG BEACH — A big rig caught fire Wednesday morning on the eastbound 91 Freeway in Long Beach, prompting the closure of an off-ramp until further notice.

About 4:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol responded to the eastbound Artesia Freeway at the Cherry Avenue off-ramp and located the semi with its tractor brake line on fire, according to a CHP Incident Log.

The big rig was loaded with produce and had pulled to the right side of the freeway, where it became fully engulfed in flames, the CHP said. Long Beach firefighters responded to the incident and were able to extinguish the fire about 5:20 a.m.

The Cherry Avenue off-ramp remained closed, the CHP said.
