Fullerton man identified in freeway leap suicide in Corona

by in News

A Fullerton man was identified as the person who jumped to his death Saturday from the 15 Freeway onto the 91 Freeway in Corona.

He was Jason Birrell, 42, the Riverside County Coroner’s Office said.

Witnesses reported seeing a grey vehicle parked on the transition road from the northbound 15 to the westbound 91 at 12:28 p.m. Saturday. They saw Birrell jump and land in an eastbound lane of the 91, where he was struck by several vehicles.

A SigAlert was called and three lanes of the freeway were closed until about 4:30 p.m., with traffic limited to one lane on the far-right side.

This was at least the third apparent suicide at the same site in the past year. A Corona man jumped to his death in May, and a Rancho Santa Margarita man fatally jumped in July.
