Spots filling up for ‘Butterfly Migration Mania’ walk at Upper Newport Bay on Sunday

Painted lady butterflies continue to migrate through California, and volunteers at Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve are leading a “Butterfly Migration Mania” walk Sunday, March 17 to view and learn about the winged beauties and haw you can help them.

The two-hour walk is open to all ages over one to two miles of uneven terrain. Participants under 17 years of age must be accompanied by a legal guardian.

Registration on the letsgooutside.org site is suggested. About 300 people were already registered on the site as of Saturday afternoon, leaving only 100 spots left.

Participants should meet at the Peter and Mary Muth Interpretive Center.
