Fiery crash shuts down portion of 91 Freeway in Corona for hours

by in News

A fiery crash involving a tractor trailer and a second vehicle early Thursday morning shut down several lanes of the 91 Freeway near McKinley Street in Corona for nearly five hours.

All lanes of the freeway had been reopened by 5:15 a.m., according to a Caltrans Twitter post, but significant slowing was expected to persist through the area on both the east and westbound lanes.

The crash was first reported around 12:45 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of the freeway, according to California Highway reports.

Following the initial collision, the tractor trailer crashed through the center divider and ignited, officials said.

CHP reports indicate the driver of the tractor trailer was able to escape the overturned vehicle. It wasn’t immediately clear if the driver of the second vehicle remained on scene.

The crash is under investigation.
