A motorcycle rider died in a crash on the 405 Freeway in Irvine on Wednesday, May 1, officials said.

The crash happened in northbound lanes, just south of the highway transition to State Route 133, at about 6:15 p.m., Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Tony Bommarito said. The 26-year-old woman died at the scene of the collision.

Her identity was not immediately released.

California Highway Patrol logs showed the CHP was told by a witness that the rider lost control of her motorcycle and it veered into the center divider. No other vehicles appeared to have been involved in the collision.

The crash prompted a temporary SigAlert in the two left lanes of the northbound 405 that began at 6:24 p.m.
