Santa Ana man arrested in hit-and-run vs. wheelchair that left victim fighting for life

by in News

A Santa Ana resident was arrested on suspicion of being the driver in a hit-and-run collision with a wheelchair that left a severely injured man lying in the street.

Lucio Luna, 48, was arrested after someone called Santa Ana Police Department on Saturday to report a suspicious looking car in a neighborhood. Detectives went to the scene and determined the vehicle was involved.

Luna was booked into the Orange County Jail on suspicion of Felony Hit and Run with a DUI.

The collision occurred Friday at about 10:37 p.m. near the intersection of 1st and Townsend streets. A preliminary investigation showed the man in the wheelchair was crossing 1st Street southbound in a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle, headed east.

The victim, who was not identified, was in “extremely critical condition,” police said.
