Man dies of apparent gunshot wound after pursuit through San Bernardino, Los Angeles, Orange counties
WESTMINSTER — A car chase that began Saturday in Upland, in San Bernardino County, and went through some Los Angeles County freeways, ended in Westminster when the suspect’s car became disabled and authorities found the man dead, possibly from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Upland police tried to pull over a man driving a Toyota Scion for an equipment violation at 4:24 a.m. Saturday, said California Highway Patrol Officer Duane Graham, triggering a pursuit when the suspect entered the westbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway.
The CHP took over the chase, going through Los Angeles County freeways, before the Toyota got on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway, taking the Beach Boulevard exit in Westminster, Graham said.
The suspect continued north on Beach Boulevard, where his car became disabled in traffic lanes, he said.
“It was later determined the driver likely sustained a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound,” he said. “The incident remains under investigation.”
