Anaheim was the hottest place in America on Monday as heat wave hit Southern California

by in News

Orange County’s largest city earned meteorologists’ recognition as the hottest place in America on Monday, Oct. 21, amidst the beginning of a heat wave expected to scorch Southern California for most of the week.

Anaheim logged the highest temperatures of the day with readings peaking at 98 degrees, the National Weather Service reported. Those figures surpassed earlier predictions by five degrees.

Nearby Yorba Linda matched the San Pasqual Valley in San Diego County for the second-warmest temperatures of the day at 97 degrees. Those numbers topped the 96-degree highs measured in Death Valley, Fullerton, Chino, Long Beach, Escondido and Santee, all tied as the third-hottest areas in the United States on Monday.

Meteorologists expect temperatures to remain well above average throughout Southern California for the remainder of the week. Moving forward, weather models forecast a high of 92 degrees in Anaheim on Tuesday. Experts also predicted temperatures to reach 94 degrees in Chino and Ontario, 95 degrees in Riverside, and 96 degrees in Woodland Hills and Van Nuys that day.

A mild cooling trend Wednesday will provide some temporary relief. But weather patterns shift again on Thursday, and hot, dry and gusty conditions will return to portions of Southern California. The combination of high temperatures, low humidity and fast-moving winds this week have prompted warnings from officials of an elevated fire risk, especially on Thursday and Friday.
