Man charged with attempted murder in Huntington Beach shooting

by in News

A 29-year-old man was charged Tuesday, Oct. 22, with attempted murder for allegedly shooting another man Sunday afternoon in Huntington Beach.

The charge against Dennis Tri Gia Dang includes sentencing enhancements for attempted premeditated murder, discharging a firearm causing great bodily injury or death and leaving a victim comatose or paralyzed.

Dang pleaded not guilty to the charge and was ordered to return to court Oct. 30 for a pretrial hearing.

Police were called at 12:17 p.m. Sunday to the shooting at Magnolia Street and Warner Avenue, Huntington Beach police Officer Angela Bennett said.

The victim, whose identity was not released for investigative reasons, was taken to a hospital, where he remained in critical condition Tuesday, Bennett said.

The victim is in a coma, and if he dies prosecutors intend to upgrade the charge against him, Senior Deputy District Attorney Janine Madera said.

Bennett and Madera declined to say what relationship, if any, Dang had with the victim or what prompted the shooting.
