Police arrest 2nd man in weekend shooting in Huntington Beach

by in News

Police took a second person into custody Wednesday, Oct. 23, in a shooting in Huntington Beach over the weekend that left one person critically injured.

Casey Ngo, 31, of Midway City, was arrested and booked on suspicion of attempted murder, Huntington Beach Police said in a news release. He and Dennis Dang, 29, of Westminster, are suspected in a shooting that took place near the intersection of Warner Avenue and Magnolia Street.

There, a passerby spotted an injured man and called officials at about 12 p.m. Sunday. Responding officers and paramedics located one victim suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head, police said. He was taken to a hospital, where he remained in treatment as of Wednesday evening.

Police booked Dang on suspicion of attempted murder a day after the shooting. He was held at the Orange County Central Men’s Jail in lieu of $3 million bail as of Wednesday. The felony charge filed against him Tuesday, Oct. 22, included sentencing enhancements for attempted premeditated murder, discharging a firearm causing great bodily injury or death and leaving a victim comatose or paralyzed. He pleaded not guilty, and was ordered to return to court Oct. 30 for a pretrial hearing in the West Justice Center in Westminster.

Further investigation led police to suspect Ngo’s involvement in the crime, which officials called an isolated incident in Wednesday’s release. Authorities do not believe there is any related lingering threat to the public following his arrest.

Authorities did not disclose the name of the man who was shot Sunday. Investigators believe he knew at least one of the suspects, but did not elaborate on the nature of that relationship in Wednesday’s release. Further details regarding the shooting were withheld from the public for investigative purposes, police said.

Officials have asked anyone with information relevant to the shooting to call the Huntington Beach Police Department Hotline, 714-375-5066. Anonymous tips can also be left with Orange County Crime Stoppers by dialing 855-TIP-OCCS.
