1 dead in shooting at Irvine home; 2nd victim assaulted
One man was dead after a shooting at a home in Irvine early Saturday morning, and a second person reported being assaulted, police said.
Officers responded at 5:45 a.m. to a report of an injured man in the residential neighborhood, Irvine police said. When they arrived, the man said he was the victim of an assault at a home on Bayleaf Lane, near Yale and Meadowood.
The victim told officers that there was another man with injuries in the residence, police said. Officers then entered the home and found the second man with multiple gunshot wounds.
“Both victims were transported to a local hospital and the gunshot victim was pronounced deceased,” Irvine police said in a statement. “The other victim’s injuries are not life-threatening.”
The gunshot victim wasn’t immediately named, pending identification by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Coroner Division.
It wasn’t immediately clear what type of injuries the other victim sustained, other than that he wasn’t shot, according to police.
Investigators believe two male suspects met the victims at the Bayleaf Lane home and fled in a vehicle after the shooting.
The reason for the meeting and the motive for the shooting were under investigation. Police believe this was an isolated incident and there is no danger to the community.
“We don’t believe this is random,” Irvine Police Lt. Dave Kalug said.
