Man ejected, dies after pickup truck flies off 55 Freeway in Costa Mesa
A man was killed after he was ejected from his pickup truck when it went off an embankment on the northbound 55 Freeway in Costa Mesa on Saturday morning, authorities said.
The white Ford pickup truck went over the side on the right shoulder embankment just north of the Baker Street offramp at 11 a.m., said California Highway Patrol Safety Dispatch Mayra Delgado.
When the vehicle landed, it rolled over, Costa Mesa Fire Department Capt. Joseph Noceti said.
“It was a rollover accident and the person was ejected,” he said. “It was a fatality.”
The offramp was closed for investigation, Noceti said.
It wasn’t clear whether the truck went over an embankment on the offramp, or if it was near the offramp.
