87-year-old pedestrian struck and killed in Newport Beach

An 87-year-old pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and killed over the weekend in Newport Beach.

George Stryker, a Newport Beach resident, was hit shortly after 6:15 p.m. Saturday while crossing the street in the vicinity of  MacArthur Boulevard and San Miguel Drive, according to the Newport Beach Police Department and the Orange County coroner’s office. He died before first responders could transport him to a hospital, Newport Beach Police spokeswoman Heather Rangel said.

Newport Beach police officials declined to immediately release some additional details about the crash, including what type of vehicle it was, whether it was speeding and if the pedestrian was in a crosswalk.

No arrests were made in connection with the collision, Rangel said.
