Esperanza High student arrested on suspicion of terrorist threats
Police arrested an Esperanza High School student on Friday, Nov. 1, on suspicion of threatening the campus.
The 15-year-old suspect is accused of making a threat to the safety of the school after getting involved in a non-physical dispute with two other students, Anaheim Sgt. Shane Carringer said.
Officers responded Friday afternoon and took the boy into custody on suspicion of making the terrorist threats. He was held at the Orange County Juvenille Hall over the weekend. It was unclear if he was released on Monday.
The teen did not bring any weapons to campus, and authorities say they do not believe there is any lingering threat to the public.
Investigators have not ruled out the possibility that bullying might have been involved in the incident, Carringer said.
“These situations are handled with the utmost seriousness in order to protect the students and staff of any school,” Carringer said.
