Ambulance carrying patient overturns on 91 Freeway in hit-and-run crash; CHP seeks driver who fled

by in News

An ambulance landed on its side on the 91 Freeway in Anaheim following a hit-and-run collision with an SUV that caught fire early Sunday, Nov. 10.

The two-vehicle crash happened near Harbor Boulevard in Anaheim around 4:15 a.m., California Highway Patrol officials said in a statement. A CARE ambulance was struck by a Chevy Trax that burst into flames, Orange County Fire Authority Communications Director Colleen Windsor said.

At least three people were hurt, including one who was taken to UCI Medical Center, the CHP’s statement said. OCFA officials said a young boy who had been a patient in the ambulance, as well as two paramedics and a CARE attendant, were taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The discrepancy on the count of those injured in the crash was not immediately resolved.

The driver of the Chevy fled the area on foot before officers arrived, CHP officials said. Investigators are attempting to identify that motorist, and asked anyone who might have witnessed the crash to contact the Westminster CHP office by dialing 714-892-4426.
