A woman was seriously injured Sunday night while crossing Orangethorpe Avenue in Fullerton when she was hit by a car driven by a driver suspected of being under the influence, police said.

Officers were called shortly before 10 p.m. to Orangethorpe, near Euclid Street.

The woman had life-threatening injuries to her upper body and lower extremities, Fullerton Lt. Jon Radus said.

The woman was not in a crosswalk at the time of the crash, Radus said.

The driver of a silver Honda sedan stayed at the scene and was given a field-sobriety test by police and taken into custody.
