Bicyclist critically injured in Garden Grove hit-and-run, DUI suspect arrested

by in News

A bicyclist was hospitalized Tuesday morning in critical condition with head injuries he suffered in a hit-and-run crash in Garden Grove, and a 26-year-old suspected drunken driver was found a short distance away and arrested for felony hit-and-run and DUI.

Officers responded to Orangewood Avenue and Euclid Street about 11 p.m. Monday and found the bicyclist with major head trauma, said Sgt. E. Leyva of the Garden Grove Police Department.

The rider had the right-of-way, Leyva said.

Officers located the suspect’s vehicle a quarter-mile away and the driver, identified as Victor Medina of Garden Grove, was taken into custody after he “showed signs of impairment,” Leyva said.

A news photographer described the vehicle as a Chevrolet Suburban with heavy front-end damage.

Police asked anyone who witnessed the crash to call Traffic Investigator Paul Ashby at 714-741-5823.
