Man killed while riding bike along PCH in Huntington Beach
A man riding his bike along Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington beach died Friday night after colliding with a car, authorities said.
The man had been riding his bike south on PCH and then crossed into the northbound lanes, Huntington Beach police said in a news release. While crossing to the other side of the highway, a 2014 Honda CR-V traveling north struck the man.
Police were called to the scene about 10:22 p.m. where they found the man, identified by police only as a 62-year-old male transient, laying on the pavement, police said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene due to serious head injuries. Police said he was not wearing a helmet.
The identity of the cyclist was not immediately available.
The driver of the CR-V, a 72-year-old Huntington Beach resident, remained on scene. Alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in the crash, police said.
