Shooting at Garden Grove cafe leaves 1 dead

by in News

A shooting at a crowded restaurant in Garden Grove left one man dead on Tuesday, March 10.

Authorities received reports of gunfire at Cafe 368, 10947 Westminster Ave., at about 12:04 p.m., Garden Grove Police said in social media posts. Officers entered the business and encountered a man possibly in his 20s who had died after suffering multiple gunshot wounds, Garden Grove Police Lt. Richard Burillo said.

The decedent may have been involved in an altercation with a patron at the restaurant just prior to the shooting, Garden Grove Police Lt. Carl Whitney said. He added that it was not immediately clear who pulled the trigger or whether the killing was intentional. No person had stepped forward to report their involvement in the incident as of 5 p.m.

“It all happened so fast,” Whitney said.

Investigators were in the process of obtaining a warrant that evening in order to view surveillance footage, and were waiting for coroner’s officials to finish examining the decedent’s body before searching him for clues.

No other people were in the business when police arrived, Burillo said. However, there may have been between 20 to 30 people inside at the time of the incident.

Investigators were interviewing witnesses Tuesday afternoon, Burillo said. Officials asked anyone with information regarding the shooting to contact Garden Grove Police Detectives. Officers can be reached at any time by calling 714-741-5800.
