Sunny skies, rising temperatures to greet Southland residents over Memorial Day weekend

by in News

Sunny skies and warm temperatures will greet Southern Californians for most of the holiday weekend, with temperatures climbing gradually into Memorial Day and beyond.

Overhead clouds may visit coastal areas in Los Angeles and Orange counties but should burn off by late mornings on Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24, forecasters said.

High temperatures along the coast will be in the mid-70s, while valley areas in Los Angeles County could see temperatures in the mid-80s by Sunday, said meteorologist Joe Sirard of the National Weather Service.

The San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys could even see highs in the 90s on Memorial Day, when the Inland Empire’s desert could get into the mid- to high-90s.

Some inland spots in Orange County could graze the 90-degree threshold.

“There will be a consistent warm-up throughout the weekend,” said another Weather Service meteorologist, Bruno Rodriguez.

Added Sirard: “We don’t expect any super strong wind at this point, but it will be heating up. It’s not quite summer yet, but it’s going to feel like summer.”
