3 hospitalized after multi-car crash in Newport Beach that temporarily shuts down Coast Highway

by in News

Three people were hospitalized and one was arrested after several cars collided Tuesday on Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach, police said.

It was just about 10:30 a.m. when the crash was reported in front of the Balboa Bay Resort at 1221 West Coast Highway. Four vehicles were involved in the crash, said Newport Beach police spokeswoman Heather Rangel.

A Range Rover and a Ferrari were traveling at high speeds westbound on Pacific Coast Highway and struck two other cars on the road, Rangel said.

The driver of the Range Rover stayed at the crash scene. But the driver of the Ferrari did not stop and kept going. She was tracked down by police and arrested at her home. Rangel said she was booked on suspicion of evading peace officers and hit and run with property damage.

The crash caused all lanes of the highway to temporarily close from Dover Drive to Tustin Avenue on the eastbound and westbound sides, Rangel said.

Three people from the other vehicles were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered serious, police said.

Police were investigating what led to the crash, which caused a backup of traffic in the area.
