Crash east of Tustin shuts down Santiago Canyon Road
A vehicle collided with a telephone pole in the hills east of Tustin, sending two people to hospitals and resulting in a closure of Santiago Canyon Road on Sunday, July 12.
The crash happened near Blue Diamond Haul Road at about 1:56 p.m., according to preliminary information from California Highway Patrol logs. One person was sent to Mission Hospital with abrasions to both arms and their left leg. At least one other patient was taken to Orange County Global Medical Center with injuries to the left wrist, ankle and a cut above their right eyebrow.
Another three collisions, all involving motorcycles, happened near the scene of the initial crash, said Joanne Hubble of the Inter-Canyon League, a non-profit that coordinates emergency response in the area.
Meanwhile, traffic headed both directions along Santiago Canyon Road was shut down. It was expected to remain closed until at least 10 p.m., Hubble said.
“I wish I had better news,” Hubble said. “Let’s hope it’s open for those of us needing it tomorrow for the morning commute.”
The road was blocked at Chapman Avenue to the west and Hicks Haul Road to the east Sunday evening, according to CHP logs. The 241 Toll Road offramps at Santiago Canyon Road were also closed off.
