Man killed when motor scooter crashes into utility pole in Huntington Beach

A 30-year-old man was killed Friday night when his motor scooter crashed into a utility pole in Huntington Beach, according to police.

Huntington Beach police responded to the area of  Brookhurst Street and Effingham Drive at about 7:50 p.m. and found a 2007 Vespa scooter with major damage in the roadway.

A preliminary investigation showed the operator of the scooter, who is from Garden Grove, was traveling north on Brookhurst Street from Hamilton Avenue, veered to the right, collided with the utility pole and was ejected, police said. The operator was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not released.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
