6-year-old boy, man killed by pickup truck while crossing Garden Grove intersection
A 6-year-old boy and 60-year-old man crossing a Garden Grove intersection were fatally struck by a pickup truck Saturday night, Oct. 12, authorities said.
The two pedestrians were at Garden Grove Boulevard and Benton Street when they were struck by a pickup truck at around 8:50 p.m., Garden Grove Police Lt. Carl Whitney said Sunday. They were both pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The man who was struck had a Garden Grove address, Whitney said. Investigators believe the two pedestrians were related in some way, but it’s unknown what that relationship is at this point, he added.

The driver of the vehicle, which had no passengers, stayed at the scene and waited for authorities to arrive, according to police. The driver was evaluated by officers and showed no signs of impairment, they said.
The police department is still investigating what caused the collision, Whitney said.
That includes determining what lane the pedestrians were in when they were struck and what direction they were walking, Whitney said.
“The truck that hit them was going eastbound on Garden Grove Boulevard,” he said.
There is no crosswalk at the intersection where the two were struck, Whitney said. But it’s not considered jaywalking at this time, he said, because investigators are still determining if they were walking in an unmarked crosswalk.
Anyone who may have seen the collision were asked to contact the Garden Grove Police Department’s Traffic Investigator Paul Ashby at 714-741-5823.
