Woman Dies After Being Struck By 4 Vehicles

A woman died Monday morning after she was struck by four vehicles while crossing a freeway off-ramp in Corona, authorities said.

The woman, who has not been identified, was first struck about 12:20 a.m. as she crossed the El Cerrito Road exit from Interstate 15, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Pedro Vargas, 23, of Riverside, was exiting the freeway in his Honda Civic when he saw a dark figure in his path, CHP Officer Sylvia Mosley said.

She said Vargas tried to avoid the pedestrian, but the woman was hit by the left front fender and the lower left part of the windshield.

“As she was trying to get up, and as Vargas was watching, a dark-colored sedan, described as a possible Dodge Charger, exited southbound I-15 and struck the pedestrian,” Mosley said.

That driver sped away, heading east on El Cerrito, she said.

Seconds later, the driver of a Dodge pickup truck exited the freeway and was unable to avoid the pedestrian, according to Mosley.

She said the driver of the pickup turned his vehicle around to shine his headlights on the victim and watched helplessly as a white Scion exited the freeway and ran over the woman.

That driver sped away west on El Cerrito, according to Mosley.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:25 a.m., according to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.

Investigators were looking to speak with the drivers of the Scion and Dodge Charger.

Anyone with information about the crashes was asked to call the Riverside-area CHP office at (951) 637-8000.
