They discovered the fire in the attic at the Bridgecreek Business Center. Eight engines and four trucks were on scene as firefighters battled the blaze, which was knocked down about 1:20 p.m., Windsor said.

Three dogs were rescued from an adjoining smoke-filled unit after they were found hiding under a desk, authorities said.

The single-story complex houses multiple businesses and is part of a strip-mall-style business complex near the Valley View Street offramp from the westbound 22 Freeway.

Firefighters remained on scene to investigate the cause and origin of the fire as well as determine an estimated cost of the damages.
