by in News

Police released video and photos Wednesday, Jan. 29, in hopes of identifying a man suspected in a shooting that left a man dead the prior morning outside of a Santa Ana taco stand.

Paramedics attempted to save the life of a man found wounded at about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of Navarro’s Taqueria on the 1500 block of South Standard Avenue, but he died before he could be taken to a hospital. Investigators believe he may have been shot by a man seen on surveillance footage wearing a black hat, blue hooded jacket, gray shirt and black shorts while riding away from the restaurant on a bicycle, Santa Ana Police Department officials said in a news release.

The victim was a 52-year-old Santa Ana resident, Orange County Supervising Deputy Coroner Larry Esslinger said. His identity had not been released as of Wednesday evening, pending the notification of his relatives.

The suspect was described as standing between 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 6 inches who may be between the ages of 18 and 22. Authorities asked anyone who might recognize that person to call SAPD Detective F. Gomez at 714-245-8582. Anonymous tips can also be left with Orange County Crime Stoppers by calling 855-TIP-OCCS (855-847-6227) or visiting https://occrimestoppers.org/. Those who provide information leading to an arrest may be eligible for a reward.
