Man dies in fiery big-rig crash

FULLERTON — A man driving a 2004 pickup died early Wednesday morning after colliding with the back of a big-rig, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred just after midnight on the westbound 91, west of South Brookhurst Road, said CHP officer Denise Quesada.

According to Quesada, the man was in the No.1 lane on the westbound 91 when for unknown reasons he was unable to stop and collided with the back of a big-rig tractor trailer.

Upon impact, the front end of the pickup was fully engulfed in flames, Quesada said.

The driver died at the scene, Quesada said.

Quesada said traffic was funneled to one or two lanes due to a Caltrans closure in the area of the crash. A closure was called immediately after the crash. The roadway cleared at 3:48 a.m., Quesada said.
