Woman killed in hit-and-run in Norwalk

by in News

A pedestrian in her 70s was killed in a hit-and-run incident in Norwalk on Wednesday night.

Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel were called to the intersection of Pioneer Boulevard and Lindale Street in Norwalk at about 5:09 p.m. about a medical rescue, said Dispatch Supervisor Jeremy Stafford.

A woman there was transported to a local hospital, Stafford said.

Deputies responded to the scene at about 5:12 p.m. about “a person down,” and began to investigate the incident, said Lt. Jorge Marchena with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Though not much was known about the circumstances of the crash, Marchena said an unknown vehicle had hit the woman and the driver then drove away.

He said the woman later died in the hospital.

The woman’s name was not immediately released since coroner officials had not yet identified the body.

Officials told residents to avoid the area of the crash while deputies investigated.
