La Habra man charged in kidnapping of woman in Fullerton; additional potential victims sought

by in News

Prosecutors announced charges against a man accused of kidnapping a woman in September at Fullerton High School, and Wednesday asked additional potential victims to step forward.

A woman in her mid-20s sat alone in a courtyard of the campus at about 2 a.m. on Sept. 29 when she was allegedly attacked by Camran Abbas Mohammed, 31, of La Habra, and pulled to the ground, according a joint news release issued by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and the Fullerton and La Habra police departments. The release said the defendant forcibly led the victim to his vehicle with the intent of committing a sex offense, but she managed to escape.

The woman contacted Fullerton police, who collected DNA samples from her skin that led investigators to name Mohammed as a suspect, according to the release. It said charges of kidnapping to commit a sex offense and assault to commit a sex offense were filed against him on Dec. 6, and he was arrested the following day.

The release went on to say that on Feb. 3, a backpack left at Imperial Middle School in La Habra was found containing forged badge that falsely identified Mohammed, using an alias, as a law enforcement agent. The bag also held a stun gun and handcuffs, as well as the defendant’s driver’s licence and credit cards.

He was arrested following a search of his home on Feb. 8, and has also been charged with two counts of possessing a forged official seal.

Mohammed was arraigned while in custody at the Orange County Men’s Central Jail on Dec. 10, and proceedings against him are scheduled to continue Friday, Dec. 28, according to court records. He was held on $1 million bail, and if convicted, he could face between seven years to life in prison.

Police and prosecutors said it is possible that Mohammed may have assaulted other people. They asked anyone with information that might help law enforcement identify additional potential victims to call Orange County District Attorney’s Office Supervising Investigator Brad Tanner at 714-834-3424.

Authorities did not immediately release his photo.
