3 UCLA students in self-isolation are getting tested for coronavirus

Three UCLA students are being tested for coronavirus by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, with all three in self-isolation, the school’s chancellor said.

“To be clear, no one on the UCLA campus has tested positive for COVID-19,” Chancellor Gene Block said in an email sent to the campus community Friday morning.

The department was working to return test results quickly, Block added.

“Understandably, some of you may be wondering about the status of classes and campus operations in general,” Block said. “We are actively monitoring and responding to the situation and will continue to follow the guidance of public health agencies. At this time, there have been no recommendations … to suspend campus operations, including modifying class schedules.”

Block assured staffers and students that “the safety and well-being of the entire UCLA community remains our top priority” and said updates would continue to be posted on the school’s COVID-19 website.

He also urged anyone who develops flu-like symptoms to seek medical attention.

UCLA will be hosting a meeting Monday to address student and faculty inquiries on COVID-19.

The university updated travel restrictions Thursday, barring university travel to all regions with Level 3 warnings, including mainland China, South Korea, Italy and Iran and discouraged nonessential international travel.

The Nowruz celebration scheduled for Sunday on campus was cancelled Wednesday.

All meet-and-greet events with UCLA athletes were canceled until further notice, but all games and matches would continue as scheduled, the university said on Wednesday.
