GARDEN GROVE — A suspect in a vehicle reported stolen out of Upland was taken into custody after being chased into Garden Grove on Saturday.

The chase ended about 6 p.m. in front of a Crunch Fitness gym in a shopping plaza parking lot in the 9800 block of Katella Avenue, near Brookhurst Street, just south of the border with Anaheim.

Anaheim police were asked to assist in the pursuit about 5:35 p.m., around the time the suspect was driving south on the Orange (57) Freeway, officials said.

The suspect exited the freeway onto westbound Orangewood Avenue and drove past Angel Stadium before turning onto northbound State College Boulevard then westbound Katella Avenue, passing Disneyland before entering the shopping plaza parking lot.

The suspect initially remained in the vehicle after coming to a stop outside the gym, but eventually got out and was swarmed by officers who took the male into custody with the assistance of a police dog.

The man arrested was Enrique Ochoa-Garcia, 31, of Anaheim, said Upland police Sgt. Anthony Kabayan.

A gun that belonged to the owner of the vehicle was recovered, Kabayan said.

The black 2006 Scion was reported stolen just before 5 p.m., and police saw the vehicle run a red light, said Kabayan.

Police followed the vehicle onto the westbound 210 Freeway before the pursuit continued into Orange County, Kabayan said.
